- Practice

3. PRACTICE,
PRACTICE..........And even more PRACTICE
It is the only
thing that is going to bring you and your crew to the next
level. So at this point in time your more than likely wanting
to go play the clubs record a demo and what not. But you
dont want to do that. You have to give your self time
to develop. Find your own sound and style you dont
want to just go out there and sound like garbage. Your first
impression is almost always the longest lasting and it applies
to music as well.
The first thing you are going
to learn is that to build a following its going to
come by word of mouth. The first gig you play is going to
be your most important. I cant tell you how important
it really is. If you sound horrible your first show out
the gates then the word will spread. If you perfect your
craft and go out there and rock the place and then word
will spread. You dont have the benefit of a publicity
agency out there doing spin control for you so you cant
afford one bad show.
If you think that by practicing
your slowing yourself down go out and play a junk gig and
find out how long it will take you to get up there. A lot
longer than if you just show patients and practice you crawl
before you walk, you walk before you run so just keep that
in mind.
Practice space maybe hard to
come by. The thing that we did was rented a detached garage
from an older lady down the street for $100 a month. We
then nailed egg cartoons to the wall and covered that with
carpet. It doesnt actually sound proof the room but
it makes for a good buffer.
