OTF Community Poet

Q: Please give us some personal information about yourself, hobbies, work, school, etc.

Well. I’ve just finished my last year at University in Southampton, South England, where I studied chemistry for my sins. When I’m not doing that I’m reading sci-fi and fantasy, sampling the city nightlife with my friends (i.e. getting drunk and making a fool of myself), listening to music and whiling away the hours talking to my friends.

Q: Have you always been interested in poetry? Where do you get your inspiration?

I wasn’t really that interested in poetry until I realised OTF had a Poetry Guild. I wrote a few poems for a girl I was dating at the time and she seemed to like them so that set me off! *L* Now I spend a fair bit of time reading and writing it. I think my inspiration is a combination of Lt. Commander Leeta poking me to enter the monthly competition.

Q: Do you have a favorite poem or poet?

‘The Raven’ by Edgar Allen Poe is my favourite poem. I know it by heart. I like T.S. Eliot’s work too.

Q: Have you ever had your poems published?

Just one, in an anthology. Didn’t get any money for it though *l*

Q: What is your favourite subject to write poetry about?

Almost all my poems are about love or despair. I try to write the odd funny one to though.

Q: If you could go back in time which famous poet would you like to meet and why?

What a great question! Well, William Shakespeare is a master of the English Language and his plays all read like poetry. It would have to be him. Maybe I could pick his brains for tips.

Q: Do you have a favourite poetry site?

Why, the OTF Poetry Guild of course! (Can I have my money now please?)

Q: Have you ever considered making a living from your poetry?

Haha. I’m nowhere near good enough for that! I would like to become a writer though, at least part time. Poetry is just a hobby.

Q: Have you any advice that you would like to give to our budding poets out there?

This will sound corny, but write from the heart. It’s much easier to write good poetry about the things your passionate about.

Q: Have you won any awards, prizes, etc. from your poems apart from the OTF Poetry Guild, What were they?

I won a publishing award from www.poetry.com and they asked to record my poem for a CD. I was quite pleased with that =)
