Adam Gibbs

Adam Gibbs

Adam Gibbs claims that he has not always liked poetry. It was only when he started Fantastic Poems that he realized he had always enjoyed humorous narrative poems. The first poem on the site, "The Magic Has Gone", was written to cheer up a family member who had been feeling down and who had always had an interest in poetry. He had ideas for more poems whilst he wrote the first one, and because of his day job as a computer programmer, the idea of a website wasn't far away.

"Fantastic Poems" went online in September 2000, with just three poems on it. One of these was "Good vs Evil", a poem which introduced the recurring characters Frank and John, commentating on the ultimate battle of good versus evil. The good and bad fairies slugging it out at the bottom of the garden. Frank and John reappeared again in "Fantasy Football" and according to Adam, will be back to comment on future conflicts.

"Fantasy Football" represents what Adam feels about science fiction and fantasy poetry, i.e. that "there is a great deal of flexibility inherent in the genres and when it comes to related poetry a lot of the possibilities afforded which have not been explored."

Adam's current day job is as a computer programmer. He has held previous jobs in IT, and also a more unusual job as a croupier. He is interested in reading, writing, fencing, theatre, amateur dramatics and juggling.
