Waiting
~By Mike
Dwells loves disquiet near a sheltered harbour,
Her cold seaweed walls and shadowed water,
Viewed, his midnight brief though waning briefer,
Cutting transient hours like a soldier.
A long way away, he sees a portrait,
Impressions stolen for a young man's eye,
She danced in life to songs long forgotten,
May-time grace, exciled in lonely passing.
Distant waiting, watching, by the river,
Generous summer days are drifting on,
Is his need like leaves of autumn ending,
Seasoned, rung so dry, rust colours bleeding.
