Too Many Secrets Revisited

~By Robert Griffith

Upon the dusty trail of life’s journeys you will find,
Many words uttered once thought left behind.
Never once did they know exactly what was missed,
I always remembered their cunning deeds on my list.
Foolish were the disenchanted that took life for granted,
Their truths of life were always so slanted.

A syllable-by-syllable expression of hate,
Often times swirls through this fertile gate,
Actions once thought only to have been in passing,
Didn’t they realize their ignorance everlasting?
Did one ever come and ask the truth to borrow,
No, no, they didn’t, their opportunities died in sorrow.

For them, the ignorant, little patience do I own,
Their entreaties and pain have become well known.
Too many secrets in this world do I know,
So few of them worth putting life on the go,
Each mystery providing eternal stagnation,
Bringing for them unimaginable frustration.

Some may ask if this passion a shame,
I had only to think of it a naughty game.
One of life, of love, of memories past,
Few forays into knowledge were ever able to last.
At my knees they begged for me to trade,
Even though their debt to me not yet fully paid!

Bring to me a drink of their misfortune,
Too see a life of pain in everlasting proportion.
Did they consider this lofty pursuit a pain?
With so few feelings unabashed in vain;
A riddle of words and actions not truthful,
Have I made a mistake and it not been fruitful?
