The Perfect Boyfriend

~By Korny

Look outside the window, he said, look outside the window
I blinked my eyes, hoping to see whatever so mystified him
I don’t see anything, I said, there’s nothing out there
Look harder, he said, you’ll see
I looked harder; he snuck up behind me
My heart thudded in my chest, not fully knowing why
I never felt his hands on my head; I never heard my neck snap
My body sagged, but he caught me before I fell
Brushing back hair, he laid me on the bed
That’s my girl, he said, that’s my girl
Dressing me in a flowing sapphire gown, he smiled
He picked me up and held me in his arms
My glassy eyes stared eternally at nothing
He hummed as we twirled around the room
My body limp in his strong grasp
Keep up, keep up, he said, you’re behind a step
My stiletto clad feet drug on the carpeted floor
A sigh in frustration, a body quickly cooling
He took me outside, to the backyard
He dropped my body in the whole I never saw him dig
I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do this, he said, we could’ve danced forever
A small smile, a shovelful of soil
My already dead world fading from existence
He laid a deep red rose on the small mound and left.
