Time's Memories

~By Matt Russell

That fateful day soon approaches
The day in which we’ll have to say goodbye,
And while this day excites us
It also makes us feel the need to cry.

The books will soon be closed
And left to lie in dust,
Then we’ll be left to think back
Wondering what was and wasn’t a must.

Sounds from slammed lockers
Will soon fade away into our minds,
Along with what we’ve been through
Both our losses and our finds.

Laughter will fill the halls
As we remember all the stupid stuff we’ve done,
Thinking back to those good old days
The days in which we had so much fun.

Some teachers might still believe
That we all partied way more than should,
But for us this was part of our time
It was simply something we all understood.

Our friends we’ve grown dependent on
Making us wondering how we could live without,
Then sadness takes hold for a moment
As we realize we may have to find out.

Time seems to have been cruel
Almost going by way too fast,
Speeding through all the today’s
Making them quickly turn into the past.

Twelve years together
Has brought us far closer then could be expected,
And as we start to go our separate ways
It will be hard to not become so dejected.

The future seems so unclear
And the past is quickly becoming memory,
So let this day become sacred
This the final day before of school we become free.
