Dragonflight

~By Celestia Starr-Soul

I have dreamed of this moment
Since before I could open my mouth to form the words to explain it.
Since before I could open my eyes and see the wondrous world that was mine to explore.
The azure sky,
Stretching endlessly before me.
My leathery wings,
Floating over the wind.
My mother,
Gliding effortlessly beside me.
Her face, the picture of contentment.
Her smile, encouraging.
It's beautiful, I tell her.
She simply nods.
The sea below us sparkles invitingly.
My cousin, swimming below,
Sends up a firey greeting.
I belch my own small flames,
And do backflips in the sky,
As if to say,
Look at me!
A gust of wind propels me forward,
I can smell and taste the sea.
The joy I feel can never be surpassed by any mortal pleasures.
The wingless ones,
Who forced dragons like my mother into hiding,
Falsely believe that they hold all the power in the world.
But none of them
Have the power
To experience what I and my mother can
Now and everday hence.
They can never
Experience the glorious freedom
Of dragonflight.
