The Knight And The Gnome

~By Anonymous

Once Upon a Time
In a land far beyond
A fine young knight
Lived beside a great pond.

And in this pond
There lived a small gnome
Who befriended the knight
That protected his home.

But soon from the king
There came a great shout
"All the gnomes of this kingdom
Will have to get out."

"A frierce monster has come
It feeds on the small
If they don't leave at once
It will soon eat them all."

Thus our knight was distressed
At the plight of his friend
Yet he understood the message
The King had to send.

Deep into the darkness
The newbie knight long thought
How to save the pond gnome
From his painful life's lot.

The knight schemed and planned
And figured a way.
He could defeat the monster
And thus save the day.

And with the day and its light
The knight's body was tired
So he slept long and dreamt
of how he'd soon be admired.

He awoke after long
From a rap at his door
And there stood the gnome
With troubles no more.

"The gnomes, we've won!"
He exclaimed with a smile
"As one we defeated,
That creature so vile!"

He continued to speak
Of the fight and the tail
The monster had lost
And it's time now in jail.

Our knight showed pleasure
For his friends happy state
Yet inside disappointment
Filled his whole plate.

While he'd schemed and slept
The needed action and glory
Were won by the others
Who'd earned it as their story.

But the pond and the gnome
Were happy as before
And our young knight learned
To act and not snore!

The End
