So you thought you’d got the best of me,
You thought that you had won,
You thought you’d broken down my walls,
You thought your job was done…
You thought that you could run away,
And leave me standing here,
You thought that you were not to blame,
For my constant flow of tears.
What happened to the days gone by,
When everything was perfect?
When we made each other smile inside,
Tell me, was it really worth it?...
When suddenly, one day, it all went sour,
And you thought I’d met another,
When all along YOU were the one,
And the woman was your mother!
How I wished she’d cut the apron strings
And allowed you to go free,
To let you come into my arms,
But there’s no chance for me…
And so my friend I hope you’re happy…
That your mum fulfils your dreams,
And when I’m gone to pastures new,
Please don’t come look for me.
So as you stand there smug and proud,
I’ll just stand back and wait,
When you realise what you have lost,
It will be far, far, FAR too late!!!
But for now, I sit at my desk,
To amuse myself with prose,
hoping that it all will drift away,
The pain, the hurt, the woes!
