Misery’s Scorn

~By Matt Russell

Who are you
I yell to your face,
To pass such judgment on me
And make me feel like an utter disgrace.

I am not perfect
This fact has been proven sure,
But don’t you begin to act as if
You’re my imperfection’s cure.

All you seem to do is curse
Making me feel like shit,
Which forces me to spiral down
Into a dark and bottomless pit.

Through all of this come only misery and hate
Both of which lead me to dread,
And only serve to show
That you’ll be so happy once I’m dead.

Yet here I still am
For whatever reason that may be,
Still breathing and bleeding
Despite how you have treated me.

One day we’ll be done
And all this I will have overcome,
To this day I look forward to
The day when the world I no longer hide from.
