Meltdown

In despair I write these words behind a shield of white
A thin small piece of parchment my only guiding light
If words can mend a bleeding heart, help me find them here tonight
For in these dark, dark hours my world is anything but right
The gun is on the counter, well within my sight
It would be so easy to end this lonesome fight
Pernicious thoughts fill my mind, adding to my strife
If death is just eternal rest then all will be alright
One bullet's kiss upon the brow, to take me on my flight
Weep no more, grieve no more, an end to this useless life
Oh! Angels of Mercy help me, I'm having a meltdown tonight!
Help me drown out these thoughts and keep me safe from this loathsome plight.
