Close To Your Heart

Little girl first time away from home
Tears trailing down her face
Her mother pulls her in her arms
Tries to call her baby's fears
Put a picture in her front, shirt pocket
You know I can't always be right there
But I'll always be near
So if you ever need me
You know where I am
I'll always be close to your heart
Daddy goes off to war
He leaves her with a hug and kiss
Hold his little girl in his arms
So precious and weak
He tells her as he holds her hand over his heart

The doctors tell them it won't be
She's reached the end of her battle
Held on a little longer and fought harder
Their last night with their angel
She whispers softly with all she has left

Now with her gone
They go through life so numb
She was their laughter and every happiness
But through their heartbreak
They can almost hear her whisper above the silence
