Thank You, My Friend

~By Aussie Lore

It was a cold morning in June. The 6th to be precise.
It threatened to rain, it threatened to storm.
But I was not sure if that was to be in the world
Or just in my soul. I was alone, as usual.
But then you came along. And became my friend.
And all because of one picture that you recognized
On my folder. The first thing I remember you asking was
"Is that Data?" a friend who understood my interest at last!
I corrected you by saying "no, it's Lore. You're a Trekkie?"
You nodded affirmation. We got talking about Trek, Then Guides,
Then anything else. I will admit, when the bell went,
I did not expect to see you ever again. I had been disappointed before.
But you surprised me, you showed up at lunch.
We both had a feeling that we’d met before.
We still do, but we don't know where or when.
We spent lunch puzzling over it. We still do.
But now it's November, late November
And the sun is out more days than it isn't
But I still don't know if that's in the world
Or just in my soul. You have lit my life
Like an eternal flame. Our friendship, I hope
Will not flicker and die out like a candle flame,
But stand everlasting like the flame of human hope and courage
And human ambition.
Thank you for being my friend.
