Twilight’s Nightmares

~By Matt Russell

O be these eyes of restless nights
Which linger a moment longer,
For not wanting to slip into
Yet another slumber of unspeakable frights.

The dreary nights have become my foe
Where I face the horrible visions,
Which act as a pallid memory
Reminding me of things I wish I did not know.

Sometimes I let out my silent screams
The whole while waiting,
And hoping that someone will come
To take away my cursed dreams.

While some believe there is meaning to be found
I wish only to have them rid from me,
But everyone only ignores me
As though my voice has no sound.

I have come to look for relief during the brightness of day
But I know how fleeting that relief is,
For once twilight comes
I tumble once more into some beings cruel play.

Perhaps one day I shall once more have sound rest
Where I no longer fear the night,
And most especially where I no longer fear
The demons which my sleep they do infest.
