That December Morning

~By Amanda Sielu Paris

On that September day
I came face to face with hate
Something I claimed I knew
But never truly understood
Then hate had a face
But I was overcome with love

Is this what it was like that December morning
When the harbor lay in ruin
And a new generation took a stand
Did the world take each other's hand
Like on that September day
Was it like that on that December morning

Did the world cry with them
As our own tears had fallen with the towers
Did mothers hug their children
With images of war at hand

That September day
I cried helplessly
I didn't know what to do
Is that what it was like
That December morning
