I Dream

~By Toddy

In my dreams, I sail on my bed
In a sea of heavenly jewels
And swirling mists,
Stirred by sparkling pixie dust.

The golden waters lap against
The sides of my bed and sweetly
Sing a melody; whispering a tale
Of emerald forests and crystal white caves
A land with purple wizards
And long kept secrets of
Treasures guarded by brave mice
With helmets and tiny whiskers

Drifting on, I lay on my back
And lazily trail my fingers
Through the glassy waters,
Stirring the memories of childhood
Memories of rose gardens, knights
And twinkling lights that dance at night
Playing in the light of a sleepy moon.

I remember the flavors and colors
Of vanilla cream, sweet cherries,
Sticky sweets, peppermint sticks
And taffy made from the colors of a rainbow
They tickle my tongue and return me
To the carefree days of my innocence.

I reach back in my memory
And can still feel a fuzzy warm blanket;
The scent of my mother's perfume
Before an evening of elegance
The sound of a whistling tune from my father
Combined with the harsh tangy smell
Of his after-shave.

Here, in my dreams, I sail on my memories
And live in the vivid imagination
Which resides in every vessel that is.
The spirit of a child
