Alone

~By Rosala Atkins

Alone I walk through the sea of bodies,
A great void separates me from human contact.
No smile, No kind word greets me.
Yet they are all my heart desires

Alone in a world full of people,
How does this happen?
Does no one recognise my hurt?
I have friends - friendly acquaintances-
None care, none see.....
It is as if my anguish is unimportant

Suddenly a flash of white afronts my eyes......
Teeth? Someone is smiling? ...At ME?
With lightning speed, bodies blurring, I am back in the real world people say "Hi" and I continue on my way:
The only difference? I am no longer alone and there is a spring in my step
