The Old Master
~By Aussie Lore
The wizened old master approaches
Knowing that I have come seeking guidance.
His approach slow, each breath painful
And it is only when he sits that I relax.
He listens to my problems, complaints,
My worries and woes.
Not once interrupting, just listening to me,
Waiting for me to finish
And when I do, he leans forward
And clasps my young hands within his worn ones.
His voice is low, gentle and understanding.
He solves my problems, calms my fears,
Gives his advice, and once again reminds me
That he is not only my master and mentor.
But, more importantly, he is my friend.
