Long before ‘Flogging Molly’ made it big there were The Pogues belting out traditional Celtic melodies and shanties. This is easily my favorite album by The Pogues, it has a wonderful mix of slow and really quick tunes.

All of the songs have a traditional English/Irish background, whereas other bands such as ‘Flogging Molly’ and ‘The Dropkick Murphys’ add modern instruments such as electric guitars to their Celtic inspired albums, this one is ol’ world authentic featuring sounds of the accordion, tin whistle, banjo, mandolin, and cittern.

The vocals of the album are influenced by the punk genre, which is masterfully blended together with the old world instruments and vocals of Shane MacGowan. A really good choice for anyone looking for a Celtic rock/punk album.
