Born on February 21, 1986 in Llandaff, Cardiff, Charlotte Church started to show a talent for singing at the young age of nine. After singing on a local T.V. talent show once she was given a recording deal. At the age of 11, her now former manager Johnathan Shalit took her to sing for Sony Records.

By the age of 13 she had become a major star. Her very first album Voice of an Angel, a mixture of folk songs and hymns, went double-platinum within five weeks of its release. Her second album, Charlotte Church, was released in 1999. That album along with her 2000 Christmas collection Dream a Dream hit platinum status in the United States. Her next album was titled Enchantment and it debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart in 2001.

Her live performances are even more successful. Her concerts sell out time after time. She has performed at the Hollywood Bowl and London’s Hyde Park with artists such as Placido Domingo, Wyclef Jean, and the London Symphony Orchestra. The Pope, Queen Elizabeth, and U.S. presidents have been some of the people she has performed for.

Much of her success can be attributed to her wide range of genres, attracting audiences of all generations. Her music ranges from opera, chamber music, and Gaelic airs, to Broadway and contemporary songs.

Despite her success Charlotte still maintains a normal life with a close group of friends in her native Cardiff. Charlotte’s interests include: fashion, boys, fads, listening to hip hop and soul music, and of course opera. She plans on going to University to study philosophy, and she plans to change her style too. She wants to be a cross between India Arie, Jill Scott, Eva Cassidy, and Sting. No matter what her style becomes, she will continue to enchant both young and old with her music.
