Cher

Genre: Pop

Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPierre, better known as Cher, has had success in music, movies, television and on the stage, only surviving through all these decades of world change because of her determination. May 20, 1946, El Centro California, Cher was born, sadly fatherless and an eight times-married mother. At the age of sixteen Cher's dyslexia proved too grueling and so she left school and her home to take acting lessons in Los Angeles.

When she was seventeen she met a guy called Sonny Bono, in the Aldo's Coffee shop. They soon moved into an apartment together, but at first they did sleep in two separate double beds. Whilst Sonny was becoming a star, Cher was house bound. Her mother saw what was happening and tried splitting them up, but it did the opposite and Cher proclaimed their love. Cher has written in one of her biographies "The First Time", Sonny was her first love. They produced three worldwide hits together, "I've Got You Babe", "Baby Don't Go" & "The Beat Goes On".

Cher was soon named as a fashion innovator with her 'far out' look. When in 1969 Cher had her daughter Chastity, she was overwhelmed and not able to protect Chastity from the spotlight. Behind stage there were some emotional changes, Cher stated "The only way I could continue life happily was to split with Sonny and bring our show to a premature end." With her marriage falling apart, she started dating many men and the media ratings on her rocketed through the roof.

Later, Cher married the great southern rock star Greg Allman and became pregnant. Soon enough Cher was unhappy with her life again, she felt like she needed more out of life. Her excuse out would fall on her soon as Allman became addicted to alcohol and heroin which ruined their short marriage. Cher found her self thirty-three, unemployed, and a single mother by 1979.

No one in Hollywood wanted her, it was a family film company, and they didn't want to take uncalled for risks. She got a position in the film at last, called 'Silkwood'. The people who downsized Cher would soon regret their words. By 1987 she was once again in demand. She was in three major films. At forty-one Cher was at the top and with a little help from a surgeon she was once again "one of the most beautiful stars."

A new decade came soon, though, the nineties. Cher's daughter announced she was gay and started protesting for gay rights. People found Chastity very "un-Cher like". Since then Cher has learned to accept her daughter and they are extremely close.

In January 1998, Cher first heard of Sonny's death while she was in London, Chastity phoned her about the news herself. Over the next 24 plus hours Cher was broadcasted across the world. Fans and the media flocked everywhere wanting a snap of Cher's emotional remorse.

Cher soon came back five years since with her last single with 'Believe'. She is one of the oldest chart toppers. 'Believe' was at number one place for four weeks. Cher has been a true star, but never forget what happens off the stage too.
