Catch 22

Genre: Ska/Punk

Catch 22 is a ska/punk/band from New Jersey. The members are, Jeff Davidson on vocals, Pat Calpin on guitar, Ryan Eldred on sax and vocals, Chris Greer on drums, Kevin Gunther on trumpet and vocals, Pat Kays on Bass and Ian McKenzie on trombone. Three of them met in a record shop and saw that they all had a great deal in common in their musical interests, being mostly punk and ska. They asked Ryan Eldred and a few other people and formed a band. They began playing shows throughout the local New Jersey area with the crowds loving them. They realized that they needed a name. and after some debate, the previously unnamed band decided on Catch 22 after a book of the same title by Joesph Heller.

Catch 22 played sold out shows for a while. Their first record, titled “Rules Of The Game,” sold 2,000+ copies. At this point, they didn't have a label, so they sent their demo to Sean Bonner the head of Toy Box Records, under Victory Records. Mr. Bonner played the demo in his office at Victory and the owner of Victory Records, Tony Brummel, overheard it through the wall and liked it. The next day Tony Brummel called the members of Catch 22 and they were signed within two weeks.

After Catch 22 was signed, they went into the studio to lay down the tracks and put out their first CD called, “Keasbey Nights.” It was a smashing hit and was one of the top ten best selling albums of Victory Records.

Catch 22 then went on the road to tour. Show after show, the were greeted by loving fans of ska, punk and hardcore alike. Soon after their first tour the lead singer, Tomas Kalnoky, decided that touring was not the life for him so he gave up the band so that he could get a higher education. The band then needed a new singer and a guitarist. Bassist, Pat Calpin, moved over to guitar and Pat Kays took bass and lead singer went to Jeff Davison. Catch 22 was worried that the fans would not like the changes within the band, but to their surprise when they went on tour with Ten Foot Pole, the fans went nuts as always.

When the tour finished, the band went back into the studio to record, "Washed Up". In late summer of 2000, they acquired a new member. It was trombone player, Ian McKenzie, from the band Ednas Goldfish. Since then, they have released, "Alone In A Crowd". They are still together and are touring today.
